FEMCA Member Country Flags

FEMCA Member Country Flags
Originally uploaded by phlim.
Okay, just to finish off this blog, I'll use this shot of the flags of the FEMCA Member Country Flags. Singapore's flag is the third one from the right. The rest of all my still shots can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/phlim/

Probably now, I can start working on my videos - which would take a while to finish, I guess. But I will need to hunt down a free video hosting site. Anyone knows of any? do leave me a comment here.

Thanks for reading my blog.

Scrutineering

This is another shot of Sam at the Scrutineering. His car has just pass the box test and is about to land onto the weight test bench. In the background if you look hard enough, you can see Mr. Kenji Osaka. Sam later told us that Mr. Kenji-san is a very friendly person, he is normally very quiet because of his English handicap. But this time, Mugen sent down a pretty female representative who is proficient in English. Sam had a good chat with Kenji over the course of this event. Unfortunately, I was too tired, else I would have stayed back with Sam and film their conversation.

Fuel Tank Size Check

F1000020s
Originally uploaded by phlim.
This is our smiling Sam Cheng, after he successfully made it into the semi finals. This station is the one which they would check the capacity of your fuel tank. Basically, they use a motorized pump to first suck all the air out of your fuel line. You then refill your tank to the brim and they switch on the pump again to pull every drop of fuel out onto an accurate measuring flask with a mark at the 125cc point. Anything more, you get a second check by the Chief Scrutineer Officer (Mr. Tesin) and if you fail this second test, the Race Director will give you a final third test. Thereafter, it is a disqualification if you fail the third test.

Paddock

This is a view of half the paddock. So you can imagine how large the paddock was. It was needed as there was a need to house 150 drivers, plus their team managers, country managers, mechanics, barang-barang, etc. In the left foreground is one of the many car wash stations, complete with compressed air hose and water hose.

Pit Lane

This pit lane design is a sure relief for a lot of pot belly mechanics - myself included. It is exactly at waist height, no need to crunch your belly to pick up the car. However, getting out fast needs a bit of skill. I've seen the best from Kenji, he launch is MBX5 off the ramp and land straight onto the track. The less skill gets tumbled over the sides.

However, Mugen sent along a female executive who doubles as an interpreter and Sam says this is the first time he could communicate with Mr. Osaka, after having met him numerous times, the last of which, he recalled, was in Austrailia - bouncing around in a cramp transport to King Cross ... wooaaah ...

The roads are not exactly flat, but one can't say that it is offroad quality. Afterall, we were in Malang for an off-road event. WITA Travel is our receiving agent and they put us into 2 x 12 seater vans and our luggage were sent over using a goods van.
